Maryland is on pace to post its first ever year-over-year increase in new homes listings this year, according to the latest data from the Maryland Landmarks Association.
The association said Monday that sales for 2017 were up 5.1 percent from 2016.
That compares to an increase of 1.8 percent for all of 2016.
The number of homes sold in 2017 was also up 4.1 percentage points from 2016, the association said.
The average price for a home sold in the state was $3,974, compared to $3.4 million in 2016, according the association.
The housing market has seen a surge in interest and interest rates.
The Maryland Landmark Association said that home buyers have seen a record number of offers for new homes this year.
The state is home to more than 15,000 buildings that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The association said it expects the number of historic sites to increase to about 6,000 sites this year compared to about 4,000 in 2016.
Maryland is also home to some of the nation’s highest real estate prices.
The median home price in the Washington, D.C., area is now $1.9 million, the highest in the nation.
The average home price is also nearly five times that in Maryland, the data shows.
